Community action for planning reform at beginning of Huntlee development court case
8am - 9.30am. Wednesday, 22 June 2011
Land and Environment Court, 225 Macquarie Street, Sydney
On Wednesday morning (22 June) the Land and Environment Court will begin to hear the challenge to NSW's largest single residential development 'Huntlee' (7500 houses) at Branxton in the Hunter Valley by the Sweetwater Action Group.
We are appealing for supporters to be outside the court building from 8am to show the NSW government and the community how concerned we are at how unsustainable planning in NSW has become.
The Huntlee development will reduce the range of the critically endangered Persoonia pauciflora by 50 per cent, clear hundreds of hectares of endangered woodland and place 20,000 people in a
car-dependent city on the end of an expressway.
In all respects. Huntlee is an example of inappropriate and unsustainable planning - it is an example of how poorly the Part 3A planning laws served the community and the environment.
With new planning laws again on the drawing board it is time to highlight the need for change.
